Let's Talk

An innovative project which used the arts to encourage communication between parents and children affected by domestic violence through the development of artist-led workshops for families and a creative toolkit for family support professionals.

The Conversation, 2013

The Conversation event marked the culmination of this 6-year project, launching the toolkit and a website to share the project learning. The event brought together the project partners, funders and professionals working in the arts, social work and family support sectors at Sadler’s Wells, to discuss topics including the role of artists, multi-agency working, whole-family projects, overcoming barriers to participation and improving communication in families.

Islington, 2007-2011

This creative project delivered in partnership with Islington Children’s Services and Family Action worked with children and families affected by domestic violence. Working with artists, social workers and family support workers, they designed a toolkit book and workshop programme which enables children to talk about their experiences more easily and families to communicate better and move on with their lives.  Following the successful pilot project, further families benefited from the Let’s Talk experience through an ongoing workshop programme delivered over 2 years, citing improvements in relationships and communication within their family units as a direct result of participation. The toolkit was launched and learning from the project shared at a special event at Sadler’s Wells in 2013 and information about the project is available here. The toolkit is available to purchase online here.
