GOING PLACES

Over the autumn and winter months and the Covid-19 lockdowns, All Change associate artist Francesca Beard continued to work in the garden and remotely with residents at The Mildmays Extra Care Home, creating poetry together inspired by memories and journeys.

As part of an ongoing collaboration with House of Illustration - Joanna Layla, Ben Connors and Jhinuk Sarkar were commissioned to illustrate the poems.

9 beautiful and poetic images have been created - printed, framed and displayed in the communal areas and lounges at The Mildmays, bringing a much needed change of scene and a chance to travel and journey, through poetry and pictures from the comfort of their home for residents and care professionals.

Going Places is an All Change project which sees artists and older people work together in community, day-centre and residential care settings, and which brings older people into arts and cultural venues to share their work, and to enjoy and experience the local arts and culture offer, making them and their work visible. Going Places is co-produced with older people and aims to find creative ways to engage and involve those who are most isolated. The project is delivered in partnership with specialist local organisations working with older people including day centres and care homes, and with exceptional arts and cultural partners including House of Illustration.

On Tuesday 29 June 2021 there will a special party for the residents, staff and artists at The Mildmays to celebrate the project.
