Bold, Brave, Wonder Women of Islington

#Islington4Women invites you to help create a new version of our shared story of Islington – a story to inspire future generations of women and girls. The more diverse stories we listen to and share, the kinder, stronger, and safer the world. This is a story about Islington women.

Islington is a place of amazing diversity, a place where many languages are spoken daily. Take a walk down streets where bankers live next door to food banks and you can see many famous blue plaques, proudly indicating the extraordinary figures from history who have called this borough their home.

#Bold, Brave, Wonder Women of Islington will be a collection of inspiring stories of historical and contemporary Islington women, chosen and told by the women of the borough. They might be famous or previously unknown, chosen because they are bold, brave and wonderful – politicians, activists, foster carers, artists, environmentalists, mothers, educators and more! The most inspiring stories will be chosen to be published in the book. The stories of all the nominated women will be shared online.

Nominations are now open. You don’t need to choose someone famous – it can be a woman you know, someone historical or alive today – just make sure it is someone who inspires YOU.

Tell us about someone who, for you, makes Islington the dynamic and remarkable place it is today. You can choose to nominate as an individual or as a group. Maybe your school would like to nominate someone, or your book club or church. We want as many herstorys as possible to fill up our book. When you have chosen her, let us know what inspires YOU about this person.

The deadline for entries is the 31st of October. You can nominate your Wonder Woman here.

Each of Islington’s 10 libraries will hold copies of the book, and we will gift copies to each Children’s Centre, playground, nursery, primary and secondary school, FE college and university too. The book will also be available to bu
