The Reading Adventure

Today The Reading Agency reveals their new free, online reading for pleasure game, The Reading Adventure! The game is piloting in Islington as part of the Get Islington Reading Programme. The game invites children in year 6 and 7 to select a reading adventure based on six interest areas, including sport, music, art and crafts, science and technology, nature and the environment and cooking.  To find out how you can sign up your child or class go to https://readingagency.org.uk/readingadventure

Explore new ways to read – The Reading Adventure provides creative activities, offering new pathways to reading which don’t rely on children reading whole novels or books.
A personalised experience – Players get to pick their own ‘pathway’ based on six interest areas including sport, music, arts and crafts, science and technology, nature and the environment and cooking.
Digital and physical The Reading Adventure is an entirely new online game platform with physical activities which can be completed in libraries and at home
Win prizes – As they progress, players earn rewards such as the ability to customise their avatar with new accessories and skins
Community-led –  Schools and libraries can add their own events and activities, tagging interest categories and levels of the challenge they will be relevant for
Reading for enjoyment The Reading Adventure aims to foster a sense of the enjoyment of reading, rather than replicating or adding to the reading undertaken in schools and education settings
Exclusively available in Islington The pilot launch of the game will be available to all Year 6 and Year 7 students in Islington before any other borough or part of the country
