REMOTE CONNECTIONS

Remote Connections is a programme from Cubitt Artists, which emerged during the pandemic as a way to connect Islington residents, including people living in care settings, sheltered accommodation and beyond. Three newsletters were produced, which included people’s work, gentle invitations to make something or go out and explore your surroundings, and the community’s experiences of adapting to the lockdown.

In a second iteration of the project, throughout spring 2021, four artists and groups of Islington residents from different generations gathered online and in person. These gatherings were organised by Cubitt and All Change and took place in a secondary school, an extra care setting, with community centres and from people’s living rooms. Through conversations and creative experiments, they explored what helps us to feel connected with each other and ourselves; with our surroundings - across time, distance and generations .

A creative workbook - In the making - has been produced inviting people to read, share, cut, draw on, write on and sit with. It is being distributed to 1,500 local residents through an extensive local network of community partners.

Remote Connections has been an opportunity to platform local voices and foster understanding and connections between generations.
