Common Ground is a programme of co-created poetry, performance & photography projects and community celebrations curated and hosted by people seeking sanctuary in Islington, supporting them to: - tell their stories; experience and contribute to cultural life in London; build new networks; and come together with their new local community to share and celebrate together - promoting understanding, empathy and connection.

To mark Refugee Week 2026, we are launching Human//Nature a new poetry anthology, inspired by our connection to nature and love for our shared planet, created by members of Common Ground working with Francesca Beard.

‘Like humans, trees travel across seas and continents, taking root, enriching new lands and making different countries their home. Each of us has a profound personal attachment to the trees and plants amongst which we grew up. They shape our interior landscapes and ground our sense of self.’

Human//Nature is available to pre-order here

‘Your weekly arts and poetry sessions for residents of Islington’s hotels hosting people seeking asylum have offered a vital space for joy, reflection and connection, especially during times of distress and uncertainty. The consistency of your work and the care you show for participants have transformed your sessions, creating a sense of belonging and community. By using creativity to bring people together, you have made a lasting contribution to London’s inclusive spirit.
