Kaya Comer Scwartz

Kaya Comer Schwartz was born in Islington and has lived here her whole life. She was elected as an Islington Councillor in 2013 and appointed Leader of Islington Council in 2021, becoming the first Black woman to hold this position. In this role she oversaw investment and improvement of local services for survivors of violence against women and girls. Kaya was appointed Deputy Mayor of London for Policing and Crime in 2024.
