Real Postcards - London was inspired by the artist’s personal experience:
‘Growing up in South America, London was a dream only imagined through postcards. When I first arrived, it was not love at first sight: the city grew on me. I discovered the obvious places and then the hidden ones. Most of all, I discovered its people and its diversity of cultures. My idealised postcards came to life, with people speaking different languages, eating different foods and enjoying different things. Nowadays my art practice is shaped by the influences of this city's culture and vibe. Here I feel free to express myself in many ways’

The Real Postcard project explores the fact that postcards are rarely a faithful translation of the real, often being more like idealised visions of the city, which disguise a much bigger and exciting reality.
London ’s famous landmarks are shown on each postcard. However, unlike traditional postcards the images include people in the foreground showing London's diversity of cultures. On the back of each postcard is a message written by a participant, often in their own language.
The project explores ideas of citizenship and belonging. Leticia has worked with a wide range of groups and individuals many of who may not have visited the city’s tourist attractions before. To create the postcard images Leticia worked with each group to come up with ideas for places to visit in London and to develop their understanding of photography. Each group then undertook a ‘day out’ in London.
