I witnessed Shakira creating her children’s animation and was very impressed with the way she developed her ideas and put them into practice. After creating a puppet of her main character, she worked with the professional writers Judith Butler and Paul Lyalls to use him as inspiration for a story. She developed the story into a storyboard and discussed different ways to realise the storyboard with professional film maker Carl Stevenson. When he showed her how to make a stop frame animation she was enthusiastic to get going with the filming straight away but first took time to consider each scene and prepare the necessary props and backgrounds. Although it is a time consuming process it was good to see that Shakira saw it through to the end and now has a short animation of which she can be proud, to share with her friends, family and her child.
