Devotional exhibition by Sonia Boyce

When we went to the Sonia Boyce exhibition when I first entered I didn’t know what it was about and as I started to look around it all started to make sense. It was a tribute to successful Black women in the music industry over the years.
There was a really good guide called Eddie who explained the exhibition to us and the reason why a few of the women was in Sonia’s exhibition.
My favourite successful Black women in the exhibition would be Adele Hall. The reason for this is because she was the first Black woman to be broadcasted on the bbc. Before that they use to paint white people black not brown black and take the piss out of us! So she made a big change in history especially having her own show (in your face).
It was a great exhibition for the simple fact that it reminds me that in my culture we do have great successful women and even though they are not established enough they are there and have always been there setting the path for the future to come.
This is what Sonia Boyce has done – reminded people through her Art of a culture that is beautiful and on top of that it also says all women are strong successful and beautiful and we as women are the future.
I would encourage all to go and see this exhibition for the sheer thought pattern put into it. Sonia has put a message out there in the most fascinated way and I feel as though all would embrace it.
I was so proud of women when I left. It made me as a women feel good inside.
I also left with a great pic of a man as well, which was painted with different sponges.
